Let go of the boot straps
Sharing some good news. Soon I'll start a five-week gig assisting a 30 year veteran photographer while he teaches an advanced lighting class at UCLA. While the opportunity to learn more from a pro (and save about $800) is fantastic in and of itself, I'm proud of how I secured the job.
I simply asked for it.
In the (not so distant) past, I've tied myself into knots trying to get the skills, resources, and experience I need to advance my career. Many times I've only succeeded in getting in my own way because I started with the assumption that I had to somehow earn my way into opportunities.
So, long story short, next time I'll remember to ask for what I need and give others a chance to help. While I'm (frequently assumed to be) a strong independent women - I don't always have to use the 'boot strap' method.
